June 6th marked the second installment of Edmonton’s Korange Market x Cannibal Kings Sole Good aka 2ole Good Sneaker *Event (we’ll get to the asterisk later on) held at the Matrix Hotel on 100th Ave just off Jasper Ave in Edmonton, Alberta.
Having missed the first Sole Good chapter for reasons I can’t remember, I had to be at this one. After a few delays and a Starbucks, my good friend Nikon Assassin, Ty, and I hit the road for our three hour drive from Calgary.
{DISCLAIMER: about 5min before we got there, I developed a splitting headache, so I apologize in advance if there is a lack of photos… I tried to do a more descriptive narration to make up for it.}
We arrived later than planned, which worried me because when the Sole Good team came to UNDS, the week before (you can watch their journey HERE), the crowd had died down near the end. Seeing how they still enjoyed the expo though, I figured we would too.
Once inside, it was easy to find your way through the hotel by following the fresh kicks that walked through, as well as the groups of ‘heads on couches and chairs going through boxes and trying on new sneaks. At the door, they had flyers with a list of vendors and raffle/giveaways, any other info you might need, and the story of SG. I ran into a buddy from Lexington Ave in the doorway who pointed me to their table where I saw Lex bouncing to the Hip Hop that was coming out of the speakers. There was a dope party vibe from SG2.
Inside the doors, there were sneaker themed key chains, and phone cases which along with Jason Markk Quick Wipes (supplied by sponsor and E-Town sneaker/street wear staple Foosh) that were given away to the first through the doors. Next to the gifting were raffles for Kobe 9 “Masterpiece”, Jordan 11 low “Bred”, and Jordan 1 “Chicago”. Three other giveaways dropped as well. As the center piece to the figure 8 style set up, in clear boxes, were a pair of WTT LeBron 9’s next to a pair of Victory Green LeBron 8’s next to a pair of Legends of the Summer Justin Timberlake Jordan 2’s from the Vancouver show.
After chopping it up with Lex, meeting the homie, @Luketigz, a 5for5 alumni, for the first time, I hit the tables. The first thing I had noticed was the pricing. Everything I saw from Kobe 7 Xmas, to Supreme gear, to Ronnie Fieg ‘Sage’ GLV’s was priced to move. According to vendors and organizers, move they very well did. The doors opened about an hour late, but when they did, there was a line through the lobby down the stairs through another lobby and out the door. I was told they all left with purchases in hand. Some describing it as “crazy”, “insane”, and “I’ve never seen anything like it”. Which leaves me pretty disappointed, since I missed the opening because I would’ve loved to see what sold as there was tons of heat left at all the tables while I was there.
About half way through the well put together table layout, I spotted Jim from Cannibal Kings rocking a Street Fighter II font SG2 event tee with a 8-bit Chicago Jordan 1 on the front pocket, topped off with the Golde x Cannibal Kings ‘Edmonton OG’ snapback which dropped the same day. We kicked it for a minute describing what I missed, talking about the vibe, and introducing me to some of the people who helped put it all together.
I finished my rounds of vendors with sponsors Golde Clothing and 5ive 7evens. 30 tables in total had everything from signed MJ & LBJ footwear, AM 90’s from the 90’s, Yeezy to Yeezy Boost, Fallsy customs, chopped top Kobe 9’s, and basically anything else you want to see including a favourite of mine that I hadn’t seen in person before, a pair of ‘McFly’ Zoom Tre AD.
After admiring and taking some shots of the fire walking around, I stepped into the lobby to talk with founder Ke from Korange Market and discussed connecting the Canadian community, sneakers to Supreme, but the thing that stuck with me most was when he talked about Sole Good; “I want it to be more than a convention, I want it to be a *event! I want Sole Good to be known as the best! I want it to be the best!”.
A big THANK YOU to the team for having me up and for all the hospitality. Truly some good dudes! \Made me feel at home at an awesome event. Until the next time.
