The PUMA Clyde is the signature shoe of a basketball legend, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, and this low-top suede silhouette proved to be the footwear selection for basketball players, B-boys, musicians, and more. Originally launched in 1973, the Clyde is a timeless silhouette that is a staple in the closets of countless individuals and it returns in dramatic fashion with the release of the Wraith Pack in two amazing colourways.
The Wraith Pack is a dedication to Clyde’s time spent in New York City and this is clearly evident through the details provided throughout the shoes. The subtle suede is replaced with an eye-catching patent leather that is designed to resemble Clyde’s favourite Rolls Royce model, the Wraith. The majority of the upper is wrapped in the glossy patent leather, but there is also a heel that is composed of the material named Kurim.
Kurim is a type of material that is polyurethane-based and designed to resist abrasion while still maintaining its flexibility. In addition to the upper features, there are also numerous representations of Clyde’s jersey number during his time with the Knicks. The number 10 is featured throughout the shoes, with it being placed on the insole, the back heels, in addition to “Clyde” being laser etched on the lace tips.
As a die-hard fan of both the game of basketball and the history behind it, the PUMA Clyde means a lot to me as the ’72-’73 New York Knicks are one of my favourite teams of all-time. They featured an amazing backcourt consisting of Walt “Clyde” Frazier and Earl “Pearl” Monroe, in addition to legends in the game such as Willis Reed, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley, Jerry Lucas, Dick Barnett, Phil Jackson, and more.
